The Fight Like a Lioness Foundation was born from my journey with Uterine Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of sarcoma cancer. During my multiple fights, I quickly discovered a troubling truth: resources, especially financial assistance for sarcoma patients were not only scarce but also extremely difficult to access—especially after treatment when survivors need support to rebuild their lives.
When patients ask for help, social workers often respond with emails containing multiple links to various organizations. These lead to lengthy, complicated application forms—many of which doesn’t apply to sarcoma patients. The few that do are often impossible to complete while dealing with treatment side effects like neuropathy, brain fog, and anxiety. On top of that, once treatment ends, so does access to financial support. This leaves many survivors—myself included—facing a mountain of debt, housing insecurity, and emotional fatigue.
Black women, in particular, are hit hardest. Many of us already face systemic barriers to quality healthcare, stable employment, and financial resources. I witness far too many black women suffer in silence: hiding their illness so they can keep working instead of taking the time to heal.
I believe if you want change, you must be the change. That belief is what drove me to start the Fight Like a Lioness Foundation. One of our goals is to ensure that no black woman battling sarcoma cancer has to choose between her health and her livelihood. With your help, we can fight alongside her— offering dignity, compassion, and the fierce strength of a lioness.
